My RISC OS Software

A word of warning: these programs are only usable on RISC OS. If you don't know about RISC OS, it is very probable that you are using a different operating system - you might still download the things available here, but chances are that they won't be useful at all ;-)

All downloadable archives are in ZIP format (archived with SparkFS). To dearchive, use SparkPlug >= 2.23, SparkFS or InfoZip. Please switch to binary mode before downloading - most browsers do this automatically, on some you have to shift+click the download link or use the "save link as" entry in the context menu.

Gebühr

A piece of software to control your phone costs in association with the ISDN switching device Ackermann Euracom (as well as the OEM variants by Bosch, Quante and Alcatel).

To use this software, your RISC OS computer must be continuously connected to your Euracom, so it might be less than ideal for people without additional serial ports. But you will get some interesting features:

This program is a typical "originally intended for personal use only, but it might be useful for others, too" effort. In other words, it suffers from the "90% ready" syndrome. Many things are only "quick hack" implementations, and there are many rough edges. If anybody is interested in taking over development, please mail me.

Gebühr is Freeware.

ReadAudio

A piece of software to grab Audio data directly via your CD-ROM.

There are already some programs available under RISC OS that do more or less the same job - SampleCD, CDSampler, AudioFS2, CDBurn, CDBlaze...to name a few. However, ReadAudio has some interesting things to offer:

ReadAudio is Freeware.

PlexSpeed

A small utility to select the speed of Plextor CD-ROMs.

You may ask why anyone should select a lower speed than the maximum possible - well, there are in fact some very good reasons why you would want to slow down your CD-ROM:

PlexSpeed is freeware. As always, it comes without a graphical frontend, is written in BASIC, is extremely short, and has to be configured by changing the code. In short - a typical 5 minute hack. Forgive me.

Douglas McKenzie has written a simple Frontend for PlexSpeed - try his Website.

MMCSpeed

A small utility to select the reading speed of MMC compatible CD-ROM and CD-R(/W) drives connected to your Iyonix.

You may ask why anyone should select a lower reading speed than the maximum possible - well, there are in fact some very good reasons why you would want to slow down your CD-ROM:

MMCSpeed is freeware. As always, it comes without a graphical frontend, is written in BASIC, is extremely short, and has to be configured by changing the code. In short - a typical 5 minute hack. Forgive me.

CDToWav

A utility to convert Raw CD data into WAV and vice versa.

Originally, this tool was written to allow CDBurn customers to burn WAV Audio files. This functionality is now built natively into CDBurn for a long time, but a recent Usenet thread came up with another use for this utility. SampleCD, a freeware tool to extract digital audio from CD-ROMs, is not able to save the sample in WAV format, but only in Raw format. This Raw format is convertable with this little utility into WAV.

It might come as a surprise, but this little utility really has a frontend - you just drag your to-be-converted file onto the CDToWav icon, and voila, a SaveAs window is opened where you can drag the destination for the converted file. Simple, really. But - you probably guessed it - there are several performance tuning options which are only available via direct BASIC editing ;-)

Features:

CDToWav is freeware and written in BASIC with a small bit of assembler to handle the byte sex conversion fast enough.

CDBurn

There is a special CDBurn page available.

CDBurn is a complete CD mastering solution for RISC OS. It is distributed by Warm Silence Software. Some features:

These are only some of the highlights, a complete overview is available via the dedicated CDBurn pages.
